A Rogue Antivirus program is a fake antivirus software which installs itself on the users’ computers without their knowledge or permissions and then they use harmful tools to slow down the users’ computing device and convince them that they have spyware,viruses and adware in their computer.The software will show popups continually in hope that the users will purchase the software.It will also frighten the users by showing exaggerated results to buy the software.However,the software will not remove any spyware or viruses at all.
Normally,this software at first is downloaded through a trojan and then installed to the users’ computer system.
Statistics by the Panda security reveals that these software attackers have a success rate of 3.4% and it is making a revenue of 14 million(Approx)/month.
The three biggest rogue antivirus recently out in October 2008 are VirusResponse Lab 2009, Antivirus 2009, and XP Antispyware 2009. Most of these have been re-created into new threats which include Virus Trigger, Antivirus Pro 2009, and XP Protection Center.
